Meet me on the Blvd.: New magazine launched for young Athens

Starting today, fashion walks and talks along the blvd. in Athens.

"We're hitting the streets with an exciting new product for an underserved audience," said Scot Morrissey, Athens Banner-Herald publisher. "Blvd. sets a new precedent for fashion coverage in what is already a rockin' city with a unique sense of style."

Taking its name from one of Athens' oldest neighborhoods, blvd. plans to be anything but stuffy. Geared to 18- to 30-year-olds, the digest-sized, full-color glossy publication features health and beauty tips as well as edgy fashions from local stylist John Robert Thurmond and his team.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this project. It's great working with such a creative crew to bring a fresh pace of style to life for the community," Thurmond said.

With a free distribution of 10,000 available in boxes and at participating businesses, blvd. is a product of Athens Magazine, the specialty publications division of the Athens Banner-Herald.

"Athens has its own eclectic style. In launching blvd., we're filling a niche for many local businesses - from chic boutiques to restaurants to stylish salons. The magazine is the perfect fit for such businesses to target their products and services,"said Jena Wages, blvd. general manager.

"Blvd. signals a new, younger direction for us. We are excited about tapping into the energy of the fashionable set and giving them a central gathering place through the pages of blvd. magazine," said Margaret Blanchard, blvd. editor.

Also in the works is www.athensblvd.com, an interactive site filled with enhanced features, blogs and shopping tips.
